This is an incredibly rare opportunity to purchase one of the most celebrated Modern houses in Britain. Designed, and still owned, by the architect Ivor Berresford, it was built in 1958. The house can be found down a quiet, leafy lane in the sought-after Sundridge Park area of Bromley. There is a train station (Sundridge Park) that can be reached by foot in under five minutes and offers connections to central London with journey times of approximately half an hour.

Accommodation includes five bedrooms, a fantastic first-floor living room with floor-to-ceiling glazing and a large garden. At the front of the house is a short driveway that provides ample off-street parking and there is also an integral garage. Please see floorplan for further details.

Ivor Berresford, whose distinguished career focused mainly on non-residential buildings, designed the house at Sundridge Park for himself and his new wife in 1956. Berresford was inspired by the innovative architecture emerging from the USA at the time and has written that “the woodland site lent itself perfectly to a simple design with large expanses of glass”. The house has featured in numerous books, magazines, adverts and photo shoots. Described in Grand Designs magazine as “the perfect house”, it is described as “all wood, glass and simplicity… there is natural light in abundance”. The article goes on to describe the “amazing relationship between the inside and the outside… the garden is all swaying trees and rolling grass”.

The house can be found on a secluded road that is characterised by large detached houses (including many distinguished examples of 20th century architecture) set among mature trees. The land was formerly part of the Sundridge Park estate – the parkland having been designed by Humphrey Repton. The parkland now incorporates a celebrated golf course. Sundridge Park is only ten miles from central London but is quiet area with lots of green space. Nearby Bromley offers plenty of shops, restaurants and other services.

Please note that all areas, measurements and distances given in these particulars are approximate and rounded. The text, photographs and floor plans are for general guidance only.
