This detached 4-bedroom house is situated on a large, attractive plot close to the centre of the popular market town of Saffron Walden. Refurbished and extended by Peter Stollery of Donald Purkiss & Associates in 2002, the property was originally a stable block dating from the late 19th century with an impressive Modern extension built in 1960.
Stollery's design seeks to maximise the amount of light coming into the interior spaces of the house by the use of extensive glazing. The pleasant outlook of the principal rooms over the garden has also been carefully considered.
Donald Purkiss & Associates are a RIBA-registered practice whose focus is on contemporary and conservation work in the east of England. Established in 1956, the firm have built a solid reputation for their sensitive and unfussy approach to design.
