Designed by the award-winning architects Edgley Design, this fantastic three-bedroom house with garden is newly completed. Edgley Design was featured in the July 2010 issue of Wallpaper* as one of the hottest young architecture practices in the world.

End House is so-named because of its end-of-terrace position. It is arranged over two storeys, and measures approximately 1,062 sq ft / 98.7 sq m internally.

The house is entered through a gate at the front, with an outside storage unit. Inside, there is an entrance hall with a washroom and a closet for coats, which in turn leads to the open-plan living room / kitchen. This bright main space has expansive fixed-glass panels that draw the eye out to the garden beyond. There is a large storage area on one side, which is panelled with dark-stained timber, and modern fitted kitchen units beyond. The room has timber flooring, which is continued seamlessly to form a deck in the garden, where there is also a lawn. The first floor contains the master bedroom with ensuite wet room, two further bedrooms, a bathroom and a utility cupboard with plumbing for a washing machine.

The exterior of End House is simple but elegantly sculptural, with a solid wall bookending the site that turns its back on the street. This is echoed by a parallel wall enclosing the side yard, which maintains privacy to the adjoining house.

According to Edgley Design, “The darkened hues of stained timber and grey render help to blend the house with its varied context, including the surrounding houses of brick, tile and white render, and the dark paint and wilderness of the railway to the rear. The house is constructed with a timber frame, warmcell insulation and panel vent sheathing to create a breathing eco-construction with very high levels of insulation.”

Edgley Design is a young, imaginative practice established in 2004 by the architect Jake Edgley. They design modern buildings full of light and space, with an emphasis on bespoke detailing. Edgley’s own house in Islington, part of a pair he designed, gained significant attention for its ingenious use of a very constricted site.

The house is located a short walk from Crofton Park railway station, from where direct services run to St Pancras. Also within walking distance is Honor Oak Park station, from where regular fast
services run to London Bridge (12 minutes). The station is also now
part of London Overground, with trains to Dalston via Canada Water
(Jubilee Line), Shadwell (DLR), Shoreditch High Street and Whitechapel (District and
Hammersmith & City Lines).

Shopping and dining opportunities
are available in Brockley, Lordship Lane, Dulwich Village, Honor Oak and Forest Hill.
Open space can be found at nearby Ladywell Fields. The
Horniman Musuem is also close by.
