This appealing house is one of a group of six located within walking distance of the coast in the peaceful Suffolk village of Bawdsey. It is currently used as a holiday home, and, although small (approx 750 sq ft internally), has 4 bedrooms and an attractive garden.

The house was designed by the architect Rudy Mock and built in 1965. Mock was a Swiss-born architect who had a remarkable career working across Europe and America. Having designed some of the earliest and most important Modern apartments in Switzerland in the 1930s, he moved to the US in 1938 where he worked for two of the most influential architects of the 20th century: Louis Kahn and Frank Lloyd Wright. Under Lloyd Wright at Taliesen, he gained such a good reputation that he was asked to become Chief Architect to the state of Tennessee. Mock moved to London in the 1940s, where he produced a broad range of buildings including university halls of residence and private houses in Holland Park.

The Bawdsey houses, one of which Mock kept for his own use, were much talked about and publicised at the time. They were sold for prices considerably over the going local rate, such was the demand for them. It is only recently that the houses have been re-evaluated, with English Heritage currently preparing a case their listing.

The houses are cleverly laid out in a staggered sequence, with carports between each one and a variation of single and double storeys. Whilst they are very much a group, each house retains its own independence. The house for sale is situated in the middle. It retains many original features, including areas of parquet flooring and a concrete shelf and fireplace.

Bawdsey is a quiet and secluded village, ten miles from the popular Suffolk market town of Woodbridge. There is a train station at Woodbridge that runs services into London Liverpool Street (journey time approx 1 ¾ hours). The beach can be reached on foot in approximately ten minutes, and the area is renowned for its cycle paths. Further up the Suffolk coast can be found the popular seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold, with the Snape Maltings also being close by.
